At Staverton Primary School, we prioritise the mental health and wellbeing of our children, staff and wider community.  Our Headteacher is our DfE Accredited Mental Health Lead and she is developing an effective whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing in our school.  We also have a dedicated team of staff with a passion for supporting mental health and wellbeing.

Lead staff members:

Mrs Ruth Nelmes, our school SENDCo and DfE Accredited Mental Health Lead

Mrs Kaye, our dedicated and accredited Mental Health First Aider

Our dedicated team offer a range of support for children, including Trekking Tuesday session for children in Poppies,  Drawing and Talking, and social and emotional interventions including Lego Therapy.

Mental Health Support Teams

We are thrilled to have been accepted as a Mental Health Support Team School and we now have Education Mental Health Practitioners coming to our school weekly to deliver 1:1 interventions of support to children with low mood and/or anxiety.  MHST also offers support to staff, parents and classes so they really do help to support all of our wellbeing.  If you are worried about your child please do come and speak to Mrs Nelmes.

A group of children from Roses' Class were on the MHST interview panel.  They decided upon the questions they wanted to ask Educational Mental Health Practitioners and deliverd their questions remotely on the interview day.  This was a fantastic opportunity for our children to be involved in an iinterview process and to have thier voice heard regarding the qualities they felt were important for the job.

We follow a whole school approach to Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) from Jigsaw PSHE Health and Wellbeing to ensure we provide up to date, engaging lessons around a range of subjects.  Jigsaw is a spiral, progressive and effective scheme of work, aiming to prepare children for life, helping them really know and value who they are and understand how they relate to other people in this ever-changing world.

About Us

Situated in the picturesque village of Staverton, our small village school is a well established and integral part of the local community. We enjoy very secure links with our local church, St. Mary's, and the strong Christian ethos and family feel within our school is shared with all of our visitors. In August 2014, our school became an academy, joining the Peterborough Diocese Education Trust.
