LOVE: Live Our Values Everyday

One overriding Value: Love

At Staverton School we have a range of home learning tasks to support and enrich children’s learning at school.  We value the contribution parents make to children’s learning and very much encourage parental involvement and support. Regular support at home will help to ensure that children make the best progress possible.

Our homework guidelines are as follows:

  • Reading : 10 minutes a day (sharing a book, being read to, being heard read, reading independently) for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and extending to 30 minutes a day by Year 6.Throughout school we aim to work with parents in fostering a love of reading so   children do not see reading at home as homework but as a relaxing and engaging hobby, in which they feel a sense of achievement
  • Learning weekly spellings for a weekly spelling test (how often this is needed is dependent on each individual child);
  • Completing a weekly Maths task (e.g. learning times tables)

Key Instant Recall Facts

Research shows that if children have solid basic number understanding, the rest of the maths curriculum is much easier to access. This is why we use the learn-its and beat-its each week. To support this further, we have identified some key maths learning for each year group which are called Key Instant Recall Facts (or KIRFs). These KIRFs come home once per half term for parents to use with their children. They are for parents to understand different aspects of the maths curriculum and help their children to practise these areas, they are not set weekly as homework tasks to return to school, although to have impact, we advise they are used at least twice a week with children. A copy of our KIRFs can be seen below.

About Us

Situated in the picturesque village of Staverton, our small village school is a well established and integral part of the local community. We enjoy very secure links with our local church, St. Mary's, and the strong Christian ethos and family feel within our school is shared with all of our visitors. In August 2014, our school became an academy, joining the Peterborough Diocese Education Trust.
