Children's Roles and Responsibilities

House Captains and School Council

All children in our school are assigned to a House.  There are four in total:  Emerald, Sapphire, Amber and Ruby.  Each House is led by a House Captain who is in Year 6. Children in Year 6 who would like to be a House Captain write a speech and share this with the whole school early in the new academic school year.  The democratic process of voting then begins! The elected children from Year 6, plus representatives from every other year group, then make up our School Council.

The School Council work together to participate in House Events to earn points for their Houses.  Some examples of House Events include pancake races, Easter egg hunts in the village and autumn challenges.  It's a great way for children of all different ages to work together as part of a team.  At the end of the year, the winning House is awarded the House Cup!

School Council work together to lead initiatives to be agents of change in our school.  Some examples of the work they have done include setting up a Larder of Love, a whole school bulb plant, and leading important Collective Worships such as those on Anti-Bullying. They have important roles such as leading Parent's Evenings and showing new families around our school.  They also form part of our interview panel when we recruit new members of staff to our school.

The School Council are a real asset to our school, leading by example and shaping the school in a way that responds to the children’s views; they do a sterling job and we are lucky to have them.

Worship Leaders

Children who would like to be a Worship Leader put their names in a hat and are selected at random.  Worship Leaders help to lead our daily Collective Worship.  They write and say prayers, light our three candles and share our school's vision and values.

Eco-Team

Eco-Team meet once a month.  Our Citizenship and Sustainability Forum member attends these monthly meetings at school.  Eco-Team have led initiatives such as raising money from a cake sale to buy bird feeders and following this organised the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch.  They have also introduced special bins in our school to collect food waste which is now recycled weekly.
