Computing
Staverton’s computing curriculum provides our children with a high-quality education that will equip pupils in their use of technology both now and for the future. We aim to provide our pupils with the skills in computational thinking and creativity to enable them to understand the digital world in which they live and be able to make changes to it. Our computing curriculum encompasses the aims, breadth and programmes of study in the National Curriculum.
In Poppies class (EYFS), children are given the opportunity for pretend play with non-working telephones and computer. Children have continuous access to BeeBots and mats which provides them with skills and knowledge they will build on in subsequent years.
In KS1 and KS2, Purple Mash is used to deliver and support our Computing curriculum. Children are given opportunities to develop their digital literacy, computer science and information technology using Ipads and/or laptops. Throughout the Purple Mash curriculum, units support skills taught in Maths, Music, Art and English. We have adjusted the long term plan to fit best with our mixed-age classes.
Online Safety
Keeping children safe online is a vital aspect of our computing curriculum. Each term, the children are taught how they can stay safe when using technology and we celebrate Online Safety Day annually. Simon Aston, a prominent Online Safety and Wellbeing Officer with over 15 years of experience in youth work and educational safeguarding, visits our school to lead Parent workshops and staff training. He focuses heavily on promoting digital resilience among children and young people.
